This placement would suit... those who would like to hop atop a horse and ride into the African wilderness, learning about animals, habitats and how to conserve them as you go. This Africa volunteer programme will teach you all you need to know about African wildlife and conservation, together with aspects of equine care. This programme is for anyone who has a passion for horses, and wants to experience and learn about the African bush. You will spend your days caring for and riding the horses on the reserve amidst plentiful game, whilst also taking part in well structured and informative Equine and Conservation Courses. This project is geared to a relaxed outdoor lifestyle where people, wildlife and horses mix freely in the beautiful surroundings of the African wilderness. Project LocationYou will be working on a private game farm situated at the foot of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains to the West of the renowned Kruger National Park. The project is situated 12km from the town of Hoedspruit, set within an extremely peaceful area in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. Accommodation & MealsThe accommodation is really special – a rustic bush lodge! You will be living in thatched roof wooden chalets, sharing with other volunteers: normally 2–3 per room. The showers and western-style toilets are located close to the rooms. They are open-air structures with running water – hot water is supplied by fire “geysers”. Taking a shower under the stars contributes to the overall African Experience. You will be provided with 3 meals a day, and will help prepare dinner on a rotar basis.
