From this base, take part in a variety of adventures, including community projects, safaris and learning to Scuba dive. Many of the friends you make at Camp Kenya will stay with you for life... Community projects One of the main features of your stay with us is the role you play in assisting with local community projects. Camp Kenya has been built alongside the small African village of Makongeni and our bond with the locals is a strong one. The key to good project work is sustainability and commitment. Your involvement is both diverse and challenging and you can expect to spend your days on a wide range of initiatives. We have agreed to specifically provide and finance the following projects at Makongeni Primary School and this is where you come in... - Provision of electricity - Provision to refurbish seven classrooms (three complete) - Provision of water supply - Provision of typing machines and computers - New staff room - Two new staff quarters - Secure school boundary with fence (in progress) - Scholarships for students progressing to secondary school - Provision of a new nursery - To assist with environmental issues affecting the local community - Local livestock and veterinarian initiatives - Inter-school sports initiatives We are going to provide you with the opportunities, but at the end of the day it's going to be your enthusiasm and motivation that make your trip a success. We will encourage you to learn new artisan skills alongside the local tradesmen such as bricklaying, carpentry, plastering and painting. Other areas of individual development include language skills, teaching and sports. Other activites Your stay at Camp Kenya will also include safaris amongst Africa's most exciting wildlife, Swahili lessons and visits to local communities, and loads of fun activites and parties on the nearby beach. Optional activities We also offer a mouthwatering range of optional activities... Climb Mount Kilimajaro: People often come to camp with a view to challenge themselves, both physically and mentally. What bigger challenge than a seven-day trek up Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro? This summer over 95% of our trekkers reached the summit and we are very proud of each and every one of them. PADI Scuba diving course: The diving off the coast is amazing; we regularly see whalesharks and dolphins as well as sea turtles and the one and only Nemo! Whether you are just starting out, or an experienced diver, we can organise the PADI course that is most suitable for you. Kite surfing course: An intensive course, designed to get you up and riding with this fantastic new sport. Jet skiing: A jet ski beach excursion including dolphin and whaleshark spotting.
