This placement would suit... anyone who wants to have a laugh, work hard, give back and go MAD! Madventurer rural projects in Kenya are located in villages set deep in the Rift Valley near Lake Nakuru, with spectacular panoramas and breathtaking escarpments. Despite the wealth of scenery, people living in the Rift Valley are among the poorest in the country, and many villages lack basic facilities and resources. Our rural projects focus on the provision of educational facilities, basic sanitation and access to clean water. You may find yourself building a classroom, renovating an existing school, constructing pit latrines or installing a rainwater harvesting system. On the project. On arrival on a project in Kenya you’ll be met at the airport by your crew leader and introduced to your fellow Madventurers, before being whisked away along a bumpy road to the village in the Rift valley you’ll be calling home for the next 5 weeks! Living at the heart of a rural community and working alongside local volunteers on a building project, with the opportunity to teach in local schools, you’ll be amazed by how quickly you feel at home as you settle into village life, and make new friends on the building site and in the classroom! On the building site you can expect to be carrying, mixing, painting, plastering and laying, working alongside members of the local community and your Madventurer team, to complete the building and see it ready for use before you leave! In the classroom you’ll have the opportunity to bring your enthusiasm and energy to lessons, teaching subjects such as English and Maths, as well as holding more creative classes including art, music and sports. Our projects are flexible, allowing you to teach, build, or combine the two. Weekends on the project are your free time and a chance to explore! You could find yourself coming face to face with the big 5 in the Maasai Mara, conquering Mt Kenya or relaxing on the palm fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean. Work hard? Play hard! We believe that if you work hard you deserve to play hard too! Why not join us after your project on one of our East African adventures. With trips from anything between 21 and 77 days, and opportunities to see Mountain Gorillas, swim with dolphins, raft the Nile and walk with lions, you’d be mad to miss them! Our Users Say… “This project has been the most amazing, eye-opening, life changing, exciting, challenging experience and I am so grateful” - Kirsty Scott 2006
