Introduction:

There is wide range of construction projects that are constantly underway in Lima - Peru. Whether you are a skilled tradesman or simply willing offer some muscle and get your hands dirty, there is a project for you to join. Locally skilled builders manage the construction projects and will provide you with the necessary training. Please contact us for a more details on future projects.

Location:

Lima, capital of Peru, founded on January 18, 1535, is a modern city, which, while constantly expanding, has also managed to maintain the elegance of its historic center. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Center, due to the large number of artistic monuments found there, historic Lima is an enchanting haven of a period long gone.

Lima is also renowned for its nearby pre-Inca archaeological sites, as well as its fabulous museums housing priceless national and private collections.

Project Life:

As you arrive at the airport in Lima, a transfer will be waiting to take you to your Peruvian Host family.The following morning, our local coordinator will collect you from your accommodation for the start of your induction.

The 3-day introduction to the country and your placement will help you settle into Peruvian life and will cover sessions on culture and customs, a walking tour of Lima, transportation to the projects and information for excursions to local places of interest.

If you would like to improve your language skills, Spanish courses are also available: 2 hours per day Monday to Friday. Courses start every Monday. You can either concentrate on studying Spanish before you start your volunteer placement, or you can combine the language course with your volunteering. Living with your host family, you will also receive breakfast and evening meals.

Volunteers can help in different construction projects that are constantly ongoing. There is always a range of building projects underway, whether it be building new school classrooms, sanitation blocks, new homes or community facilities.

As these projects are constantly evolving, buildings are completed and new projects are started. Please contact us to learn more about projects that are planned for the future. Please give us the approximate dates that you would like to participate and we’ll provide information about future plans.

Accommodation & Food
  • Accommodation is provided for you in a homestay with a local Peruvian family. The Host Families are from various ethnic backgrounds; they all have different interests and unique lifestyles. Regardless of their differences, all families have one thing in common - a willingness to share their homes with international volunteers.
  • Breakfast and evening meals are provided for you by your host family
Dates & Duration:
  • Minimum duration is 4 weeks up to a maximum of 1 year.
  • Programmes can be extended in multiples of 4 weeks
  • You can join the project on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month.
Flights & Transportation:
  • International flights are not included.
  • You will be met upon arrival at the Jorge Chavez International airport in Lima and taken to your accommodation.
  • Whilst in Lima, if you may choose to use public transport, you’ll find a simple and effective local bus service.
Safety & Insurance:
  • All of Twin’s volunteer placements are in partnership with recognised Charities, Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), government ministries or registered agents, giving you the confidence to work with reputable organisations.
  • Comprehensive insurance is available for each of the volunteer placements.
  • Our local partner provides 24-hour support.
Eligibility & Skills:
  • Minimum age is 18 years old
  • Volunteers who have specific qualifications or experience are welcomed
  • There is also a valuable role to be played by volunteers with no specific experience.
In addition, should you be:
  • Able to speak basic Spanish
  • Interested in learning about new culture
  • Open and flexible
