This placement would suit... sporty types after a Himalayan mission to take the time to pass on the secrets of your sporting prowess to the local children from disadvantaged communities.
 This programme is looking to address this by giving you the opportunity to coach a specific or range of sports at some of our schools. Your help will give a lot of the school children a platform to not only improve their fitness and health, but to also enjoy more play time with their friends. As a result, you will become a member of the local community and experience the interesting and amazing culture of one of these unique corners of India. The Sports Programme The main effort of the volunteers is to create sports facilities and initiate sports activities for the schools’ students. You will work during allotted time-slots for physical education and also have the freedom to start sports clubs after school. More often than not, the children do not have a structured environment to spend their time, so you will be helping to keep them fit and direct their energies to something really productive. The objective of the coaching is to introduce different sports to the students and teach them various skills and exercises. The most popular sports are volleyball, football and cricket, but other sports and games are welcome. Your sessions can include: - Training drills and games for each sport to help translate the skills being taught
- Games and inter-school/community competitions
- Tournaments
Community Work There are 3 main options for your community/teaching volunteer work, these include: Education, Childcare, Care and education for mentally challenged children. Sports coaching largely takes place in the afternoons (with some morning sessions in allotted classes), most work occurs in the morning before lunch. Your coordinator will arrange a placement that suits your daily itinerary. Adventure Week To top off your India sport experience, we include a week of travel at the end of your programme. This is a reward for all of your coaching efforts of the past 3 or 7 weeks and gives you the chance to enjoy your final moments with your fellow volunteers. Please note that your adventure week is always in your final week, regardless of your programme length. Due to the weather and time of year conditions, there are 3 different adventure itineraries. Location Himachal Pradesh, India. This is a developing area and in desperate need for volunteer assistance with teaching, community work and sports. With the Himalayas as your backdrop, Himachal is a really beautiful place to volunteer. Accommodation and Meals You will stay in a large stone house that overlooks a stunning landscape dominated by glaciers and peaks of the Himalayan mountain range. All meals are included.
