Conservation with Camps International![]() Name: Camps International Address: Unit 1 Kingfisher Park, Headlands Business Park, Blashford, Ringwood, BH24 3NX ![]() ![]() Tel: 0845 344 7611 Camp Kenya Spend a month at Camp Kenya in the Kenya bush, surrounded by mud villages and 4km from the Indian Ocean. From this base, take part in a variety of adventures, including conservation and community projects, safaris and learning to Scuba dive. Our camps are exclusive to young adults who think like you, are eager to take on the same challenges that excite you and want to spend their gap with people like you. Many of the friends you make at Camp Kenya will stay with you for life... Conservation projects We have launched a wildlife project in partnership with Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary in the Shimba Hills. The Elephant Sanctuary is a community-based programme, whereby local people have 'leased' their property to a community-based trust, which manages the sanctuary for the benefit and preservation of the elephants. The area off the Shimba Hills escarpment in Kwale District is connected to the migratory route leading to Tsavo East National Reserve and is currently home to a large number of elephants. The focus of this wildlife project is to develop wildlife initiatives which also benefit local communities. In addition this is effectively a very interactive five-day safari. Please note that if this is something you are eager to become involved with it is a good idea to check with us at point of booking that the project will be running during your chosen period. You may be involved with... - Development of a new tourist information center and retail shop. - A new elephant dung papermaking facility promoting sales of elephant dung products (now if that doesn’t get you excited what will?!) - Signage and way-marking on game trails. - Maintenance of the sanctuary including boundary fencing. - Wildlife education for local communities to avert human / wildlife conflict. - Elephant research work to include logging, naming and identifying elephants and herds and reporting on welfare and behavioural patterns. Other activites Your stay at Camp Kenya will also include community projects (help to renovate a local school and teach English to kids), Swahili lessons and visits to local communities, and loads of fun activites and parties on the nearby beach. Optional activities We also offer a mouthwatering range of optional activities... Climb Mount Kilimajaro: People often come to camp with a view to challenge themselves, both physically and mentally. What bigger challenge than a seven-day trek up Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro? This summer over 95% of our trekkers reached the summit and we are very proud of each and every one of them. PADI Scuba diving course: The diving off the coast is amazing; we regularly see whalesharks and dolphins as well as sea turtles and the one and only Nemo! Whether you are just starting out, or an experienced diver, we can organise the PADI course that is most suitable for you. Kite surfing course: An intensive course, designed to get you up and riding with this fantastic new sport. Jet skiing: A jet ski beach excursion including dolphin and whaleshark spotting.
