This placement would suit... anyone with an interest in the environment, a desire to help a local community and the determination to improve their Spanish. ![]() Costa Rica is generally considered to be the jewel of Central America. The country boasts both Caribbean and Pacific coasts, which make it great for both surfing and diving. Jungles, volcanoes and an incredible diversity of wildlife make this the ideal destination for anyone with an interest in ecology and the environment. BUNAC’s Volunteer Costa Rica programme places people in community projects run by local organisations in Costa Rica for 2-3 months. Projects vary depending on your interests and experience but typically involve education, environmental conservation, wildlife and tourism. After an initial arrival orientation you will be living in a home stay with a Spanish speaking host family within a local community so conversational Spanish is requirement of the programme. Country highlights include the city of San Jose, Pacific beaches, turtle watching, National Parks, volcanoes, canopy walks and sulphur springs. Programme costs are £899 or £1099 for 2 or 3 months respectively, and include full pre-departure advice and support, a one day arrival orientation in San Jose including tours, food and accommodation, accommodation and placement costs for the duration of the programme (including meals) and full support from BUNAC’s local partner organisation for the duration of your stay.
