This placement would suit... Anyone who wants to encounter amazing and diverse cultures in the remote and beautiful jungles of Papua New Guinea, whilst completing a valuable conservation or community project Travelling around Australia on your gap year? Fit something constructive into your experience by taking part in a rainforest conservation project. Only 2 hours from Australia but like stepping into a whole different world, experience Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea is one of the most diverse and undiscovered countries on Earth in terms of its culture, wildlife and geography. There are over 850 indigenous societies with an equivalent number of indigenous languages. These are all shoehorned into one of the world's most rugged, spectacular and inaccessible islands. Your 6 week expedition with Trekforce will consist of 1 week jungle training, 4 week project and 1 week trek. Jungle training: An intensive course which is included at the very start of every jungle based Trekforce Worldwide Expedition. The course covers vital instruction that will equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills to operate safely and confidently in a jungle environment
Project: Morobe Province is a region of immense cultural and geographical diversity within Papua New Guinea. Stretching from reef fringed islands on the north coast to the rugged inland highlands at an altitude of over 2,500m, Morobe is as unique as it is diverse, which makes it the perfect location for Trekforce Worldwide to operate. Morobeans are incredibly friendly and hospitable; this is even more notable in the region where Trekforce are based, at the edge of the massive foothills of the highlands amongst lush rainforest and roaring mountain rivers. Traditional greetings involve lavish ceremonies and singsings and visitors are often overwhelmed by gift giving and dancing that can continue for hours. Projects in this region are directed towards assisting local community groups and small regional NGOs to protect and conserve the environment through assisting with the development of eco-tourism infrastructure, such as building guest-houses and trail networks, and in regional conservation and scientific monitoring efforts to assist large scale research projects. Trek: You will trek the Black Cat Track. You will trek among dense rainforest on a rough overland track in Morobe Province. It runs from the village of Salamaua on the coast of the Huon Gulf, south into the mountains to the township of Wau. The trek gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in this colourful culture. You will be welcomed by villages along the way who will perform sing-sings, and local dances. An unforgettable experience.
