GAP Activity Projects has conservation placements in eight countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Germany, Japan, Malawi and the USA. The projects vary from country to country. Here is a brief guide to our current projects:

  • Land management and heritage refurbishment in Australia, e.g. maintaining national parks, surveying flora and fauna or monitoring local wildlife
  • Maintaining trails, teaching English to tourist guides or working with turtles in Brazil
  • Creating walking trails in British Columbia, Canada
  • Carrying out conservation work, combined with teaching English, in a community project in the Andes (Ecuador)
  • Preserving historic buildings or monuments in Germany
  • Carrying out rice cultivation, forestry and environmental education or agricultural work in Japan
  • Working with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Maryland (USA) to help preserve the bay's natural resources through conservation and education programmes.

GAP’s conservation placements allow you to make a real difference to an area and have a close involvement with the local community and wildlife. You can achieve great personal satisfaction from the physical impact you make and even though the work can often be repetitive and hard work, the camaraderie of working in such a committed team is truly rewarding.
