They take place in Malaysia, Namibia, Chile, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Fiji. Sample project We work with WWF Malaysia on the MESCOT (Model of Ecologically Sustainable Community Tourism) project to develop eco-tourism facilities working in partnership with a local community. This is in an effort to stop unsustainable illegal logging in the area, and develop a plan to help find an alternative source of income for the families relying on logging. We will be working with the community to help implement the eco-tourism plan by assisting with the construction of the infrastructure such as an eco-lodge, bird hides and trails necessary for sustainable tourism. The Danum Valley is a protected, world-renowned, conservation and research area famous for its rich biodiversity and abundant wildlife. The Centre is more than 20 km from any other habitation - a truly remote setting. Research has revealed a variety of plants and animals, including endangered species such as Sumatran rhino, banteng (tembadau), elephant, clouded leopard, orangutan and proboscis monkey. Raleigh are working to provide the necessary research facilities to learn more about and protect this area.
