Spanish Classes, Amazon and Coastal Conservation and Red Cross Humanitarian Aid

For its size, Ecuador is the most diverse country in the world: with the Andes, rainforest, coast and the famous Galapagos Islands it has something for everyone. The Ecuador expedition mirrors this diversity with four elements, covering many parts of the country.

Ease yourself into Latin American life with two weeks of fun and interactive one-to-one Spanish classes in Quito. Classes involve visiting markets and local museums and learning Spanish in practical situations. During the first fortnight you will also have a half day city tour of Quito, as well as salsa classes and plenty of time to explore the city with the group.

Rising up to 3,500 metres from Quito you then descend, first through the cloud forest, and finally into the Amazon. On arrival at Jatun Sacha, your home for the next four weeks, you will meet the forest guards and staff who will oversee your work in their reforestation programme, organic garden and forest patrol that you will be a part of. Watch out for the monkeys in the trees as you head down to the River Napa where you will have the opportunity to go rafting or head out to one of the local Quichua communities for a friendly game of Amazon football.

From the Amazon you will travel to Puerto Lopez on the coast where forest conservation work will continue during the week. At the weekends volunteers travel to a beachside Eco Lodge where they will help out, as well as enjoy the stunning beach location.

GreenforceFor the final two weeks volunteers return to Quito to work for the Red Cross in Andean mountain schools just outside the city. Work typically includes building resources, playgrounds or gardens, plus teaching some English or PE.
