This placement would suit... Anyone who enjoys watersports and wants to reach a high standard of diving.

Become a certified Rescue Diver from scratch, making you just a step away from being a Dive Master, which can get you paid work worldwide. Discover South Africa's beautiful underwater world of coral reefs, sharks, dolphins, seals, whales and more.

Your Placement

The GAP SPORTS International Diving Academy offers complete beginners the chance to become a fully certified PADI Rescue Diver while discovering the dramatic underwater world of colourful reefs, enchanting sea life and spectacular shipwrecks. On completion of the course, you will be qualified to dive anywhere in the world and, furthermore, you will only be a step away from becoming an internationally recognised Dive Master. With this qualification, you will be able to gain paid employment at diving schools worldwide.

The Perfect Place to Dive

The five week Open Water to Rescue Diver course is run at our Scuba Academy in South Africa’s Plettenberg Bay, originally named Bahia Formosa (Beautiful Bay), and the area clearly lives up to it's name with stunning marine reserves, soft coral reefs, dolphins, seals, sharks and the endangered Southern Right Whale. Plettenberg Bay is the perfect place to learn to dive and our Academy provides the top-class facilities and professional instruction that will push your diving ability to the advanced level of the sport.

African Adventure

Each week you will receive four days of dive tuition and one recreation day. This will give you the chance to experience some truly authentic African adventure. You will be able to enjoy a number of different activities including canopy walks, abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding as well as boat trips to see the abundance of marine life breeding at this time of year, such as seals, bottle-nosed dolphins and whales. Plettenberg’s rivers, beaches and the bay itself are also ideal for a wide range of watersports, including surfing, sailing and superb rock and surf fishing. You will also, no doubt, get to enjoy many beach Braais (South African barbeques) and a Boma (an evening meal under the stars, the South African way!).
