This placement would suit... Individuals who are committed, enthusiastic & motivated, who work well in a team & are prepared to get stuck in. It’s useful to have some knowledge of Spanish, but not essential as we provide a few in country lessons and an accompanying translator in the community to ensure the smooth running of the projects. If you want to gain experience in worthwhile conservation and community projects whilst combining the experiences of a different culture with independent travel opportunities, this is the placement for you.
Immerse yourself in South America’s ancient tribes and taste real jungle living from white water rafting to Shaman rituals, whilst helping to rebuild villages and implement basic sanitation, teach indigenous kids and honing your hunter gatherer skills! Join the Ecuador Summer Team and take a Leap from the Andes right down into the Amazon Basin and on to the Pacific coast for the ultimate Ecuadorian experience. First the team ventures deep into the Amazon Rainforest to live among an indigenous family whilst helping the local community improve their standard of living with hands-on development projects that stretch the muscles and the mind. Learn traditional building and craft skills to help reconstruct the communities ethnographic museum combined with teaching local kids at the playgroup. At the end of the day cool off with a refreshing splash in the River Napo or challenge the football fanatical locals to a soccer match. In your spare time you can visit the Amazon’s spectacular waterfalls, trek through unspoiled rainforest and experience the thrill of white water rafting on Amazonian rapids. Next we take you down to Bua near the Pacific coast, home to one of the last remaining Tsachila communities of Ecuador. Spend two unforgettable weeks experiencing their fascinating culture, learn about the practice of Shamanism and help to protect their fast disappearing way of life. Build ground-breaking ecological toilets that will vastly improve health and hygiene and reduce the impact these people have on their jungle environment. Situated under two hours from the sea, this is a great spot to explore the area's stunning coastline and islands similar to the Galapagos, visited by hundreds of whales and dolphins in the Summer months. Surf Ecuador’s best breaks and experience the famously laid back ‘hammock-culture’ of the coast, whilst helping to make a real difference to local lives through community led projects. What’s included...
