Share your passion for sport in any one of a variety of exciting developing world locations. Plan and run sessions, pass on your knowledge, gain invaluable coaching experience, train and play with local teams, explore your chosen destination and have a lot of fun doing it!

Ugandan netball represents one of the dominant forces in the region. In recent years Ugandan club sides have put in excellent performances at the East Africa Championships in both the Women's and Men's competitions. There are hopes of bringing the competition to Uganda in 2006.

Volunteers with Sportventurer in Uganda have the chance to impact on coaching in schools and villages. You may decide that the organisation of a tournament is a worthwhile pursuit and there may also be opportunities to get involved with representative teams depending on your experience and level of interest.

No formal qualification is needed to get involved with Sportventurer projects, just a passion for the sport and a desire to share this with others. Furthermore, your coaching needn't be confined to just netball. If you have the desire to organise sessions in another discipline this will almost certainly be possible.

A project isn't just about coaching. There'll be chances to train with local sides and, if you're selected, to play for them. Alternatively you and your fellow venturers might form a team of your own and throw down the gauntlet to the locals!

If you're a member of a team wanting to travel together, look no further, Sportventurer can custom-make tours to include matches, training and opportunities to give a bit back with coaching sessions.

Of course, you may want a break from the sports pitch during time away from the project. In terms of a destination Uganda has an immense amount to offer. First amongst the country's attractions is, almost certainly, the populations of Mountain Gorillas, lure for swathes of wildlife enthusiasts every year. Part of the regal Lake Victoria lies within Uganda's borders as do areas of Savannah and tropical rainforest. The big five can be ticked off whilst you're here. With over twenty tribes, Uganda can offer an enthralling cultural experience as well. You'll be bantering in Bantu before you know it!

Uganda has had a troubled recent history featuring Human Rights abuses, civil war, an under-developed economy, poverty and the AIDS pandemic. However, real progress has been made and without a doubt sport will play a very important role in the rebuilding of Uganda. Very little has the power to unite people across divides that would otherwise seem unbridgeable. Ambition, confidence and pride can all be fostered on personal as well as national levels.

Why not add an overland adventure to your Ugandan travel package and discover a whole lot more of what East Africa has to offer.

Madventurer offers the chance to combine volunteer projects in rural communities with adventurous overland travel. Projects typically include building and teaching but medical, conservation and coaching schemes are also frequently run.
