This placement would suit... Sporty volunteers who would like to share their skills and enthusiam with disadvantaged kids in a lovely, sunny location. There is great enthusiasm for sport, and for football in particular, throughout Ghana. You will find on arrival that lots of people will ask you what team you support and even what you think of David Beckham! It's not surprising that our football placements in and around Accra are popular with both students and volunteers alike. The students come from all over Ghana and the hope is that some of them will achieve the success of many of the African players in the European leagues. Teaching & Projects Abroad volunteers work alongside local coaches, helping with football and general fitness training. You don't need to be qualified, a sports star or even terribly good at football to take part. Just your presence and support will help the students' motivation and language skills and give the opportunity for more focused training that isn’t possible when one or two local coaches are trying to train many different age groups. For people with more sports skills we have placements that are keen to have volunteers with previous coaching experience and anyone with first aid qualifications would also be welcomed. As training takes place outside school hours many volunteers fill their mornings teaching English in local schools. All volunteers are allocated a supervisor within their placement, and also have the backup of our staff in the local office and the UK. During your spare time, there are great opportunities here for travelling around Ghana, and surrounding countries such as Togo or Mali. Ghana is the home of Africa's friendliest and most welcoming people, an intensely colourful land of dense forest, wild savannah and great beaches. Our users say..."The people were so friendly and always made me as welcome as they could with the very little they had. The football potential amongst young guys out there is really something, the game is physical and played with passion but most importantly always with a bright smile." - Anthony Hearly
