This placement would suit... Some one who has a love for volleyball coaching children who have never had an opportunity to learn volleyball before hopefully changing there life! Coaching volleyball in kenya, now theres an idea! Many of the schools you will be coaching at are very underprivileged. The children come from a cross-section of backgrounds, but mostly from the poorer communities. Our volleyball coaching placements are based in schools on the beautiful Island of Mombasa. As a Travellers volunteer you will not only have the opportunity to coach volleyball but you will have the chance to run the Travellers Kenya Volleyball Tournament as part of your placement. You don't need any qualifications to do a volleyball coaching placement in Kenya. Volleyball in Kenya is a fairly big sport, played across the country on red gravel courts with nets tied up, sometimes between palm trees and especially on the beaches in Mombasa! The sad fact is that many children in Kenya (and in Africa as a whole) don't get the opportunity to learn how to play the game properly in terms of learning the rules of the game or the different shots they can play. This is where you can make a real difference - by educating the children through coaching and teaching them the different rules of the game and tactics involved, and the safety issues, so that hopefully they can go on and put what they learn from you into practice. This project is a truly rewarding one as the children you will be coaching will have never had a proper volleyball coach before who can teach them all the correct skills involved with volleyball. You will also be coaching the children not only a sport, but an important life skill as well. As a Travellers volleyball coach, you'll work at a number of schools on the beautiful island of Mombassa during P.E. lessons (Physical Education) during the school day. After school you will have the opportunity to coach and create each school's U16 school team in preparation for the Travellers Kenya Volleyball Tournament that you will be running. In most of the schools we work with, the facilities are poor. You will have to make the most of what is available, but whatever the schools lack in facilities, the children make up for in enthusiasm. The children really want to learn to play volleyball, and this makes your project very enjoyable and satisfying, and you can see firsthand that you really are making a difference. The Travellers Volleyball TournamentAs there is very little sports infrastructure and little opportunity for schools to play in competitive tournaments in Kenya, Travellers have created a number of tournaments which allow the children to use the skills they have learnt from the volunteers and put them into practice playing against other schools. If you choose to become a volleyball volunteer in Kenya, you will be involved in running, organising and managing the tournament, if the tournament falls within the period of your placement. The tournament will be the highlight of your placement as you can see that all of the work you have done on your placement has paid off - and seeing the enjoyment it brings to the children is priceless.
