  This placement would suit... those who want to experience beach life at the famous Indian coast whilst getting stuck into life changing conservation and community projects.

Fancy six weeks living on the palm fringed beaches of the Indian Ocean whilst helping marine conservation efforts, teaching local kids and helping to restore a unique cultural conservation centre? Make a real difference to local lives through a variety of volunteer projects that challenge and excite!

Tanzania is home to some of the best known game parks in the world such as the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, where you can regularly see Africa’s ‘big five’ - elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo.

This dynamic placement combines life changing community and conservation projects based at the amazing Indian Ocean coast close to Dar es Salaam, the capital.

Through the variety of this placement you will experience the many different faces of this amazing and humble country and make a real difference to all involved.

Helping who?
  • The local tribes at the coast
  • The marine life, fisherman and coral reefs.
Helping how?
You will be based in Dar es Salaam, one of Tanzania’s main cities, which has a bustling coastal port and located at the coast on the Indian Ocean. The beaches are wonderful with great opportunities to dive, snorkel and explore the coral reefs.

The LeapLeap 1 - Community
  • Teach English in secondary and primary schools
  • Work with street children at the Dogodogo Centre teaching English, sport, music, art etc.
  • Participate in village projects such as school classroom construction and feeding young children.
  • Assist the village Museum in restoring the traditional houses and artifacts.
Leap 2 - Conservation
  • Help restore the coral reefs by teaching fishermen about the dangers of fishing by using dynamite.
  • Roots and Shoots Environmental Club: tree-planting projects with primary schools.
Adventure
Volunteers will get weekends off to travel and explore independently.
  • Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.
  • Safaris to the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater.
  • Scuba diving and snorkeling at the coast.
