This placement would suit... the adventurous!
South Africa was the first country in the world to protect Great White Sharks, however there has been limited long term research into these predators, due to their perceived threat and nomadic nature. This exciting programme is designed to help increase our knowledge of these intelligent creatures and replace fiction with fact.
Based a few hours east of Cape Town, the Great White programme works with a resident South African team. On arrival in Gansbaai, the shark capital of the world, you will receive your welcome and safety briefings. During your time on the programme you will learn about the breeding patterns of Great Whites, how they hunt and their preferred techniques, as well as their migration patterns. For example one tagged female, called Nicole, within a three month period was tracked from Cape Town to Perth - Australia and back again!
You will also receive training in marine and underwater photography as well as seamanship and boat handling.
