This placement would suit... Gappers who want a fun introduction to the great Aussie world of watersports... The Flying Fish Watersports Adventure is a six week introduction to the great Australian world of watersports - surfing, diving, sailing and windsurfing. The experience is aimed at gappers who want to enjoy the social side of watersports as well as the excitement of learning new skills. The fantastic environment of Sydney's Northern Beaches is the perfect place to start a gap year down under. The friendly faces at Flying Fish are on hand to help you make the most of the opportunities here - and to give you advice if you have any problems along the way. By the end of the course you'll be totally at home in Australia and ready to start your independent travels. You fly into Sydney to start your adventure. If you have travelled with Flying Fish, we greet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation at Manly. You meet up with the rest of your group for a briefing and the chance to get to know everyone. Most are single travellers aged 18 to 22. A few are travelling with a friend and a few are a bit older - no upper age limit applies at Flying Fish! After a weekend to relax and get familiar with the Manly scene your activities start. You are booked into a different watersport for two half days or one full day each week, giving you plenty of time to explore Sydney and to sign up for more of the activities that grab you most. We provide all the equipment you need and expert instruction to make sure you learn fast. Week 1 - Two mornings surfing at North Steyne, Manly Week 2 - Two half days windsurfing at Balmoral Beach Week 3 - Full day dinghy sailing at Middle Harbour YC Week 4 - Full day yachting or yacht racing in the Harbour Week 5 - Two half days diving Shelly Beach Week 6 - Two half days abseiling and canyoning in the Blue Mountains, two hours from Sydney There's so much more to do in Sydney that you won't be short of ideas. Our favourites are yacht racing in the Harbour and going on surfari up the coast. Don't forget to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the best view of the city. And, by the way, Manly has the best nightlife in New South Wales. Apart from your mates in the Surf Dive Sail Windsurf group you'll meet loads of backpackers in the Manly area, plus a whole crowd of Flying Fish students doing professional courses leading to watersports instructor qualifications. You may even decide to join them and turn your favourite adventure sport into a summer job...
