This placement would suit... anyone who would like to Obtain PADI diving qualifications, volunteer on a marine conservation project, help endangered coral reefs and see the Fijian culture.
Obtain PADI diving qualifications, volunteer on a marine conservation project, help endangered coral reefs, log 40 dives in a haven of soft corals and shipwrecks, scuba dive seeing incredible marine life, explore stunning Fijian islands and have a remarkable gap year or travelling experience on this marine conservation adventure that takes you to a ‘hidden paradise’!
The 300-plus islands and islets that form the Republic of the Fiji Islands contain some of the best diving locations in the world, making them a popular destination for anyone, from scuba divers to gap year students, who is interested in the field of marine conservation. Here in the tropical waters amid a startling array of marine life we will learn to scuba dive to earn ourselves PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) diving qualifications, and aid projects that aim to regenerate and rebuild the amazingly beautiful coral reefs that surround the Fijian islands. The coral reefs support an extraordinary biodiversity, being the nursing ground of a kaleidoscope of tropical fish and the home of a spectrum of other marine life, and play a central role in supporting the coastal communities and fragile coastline of Fiji. Sadly, human activities continue to threaten the ecosystems, with pollution and over-fishing presenting a particular danger to these ‘rainforests of the sea’, but happily, marine conservation projects have been successfully implemented in the area, to which the reefs have responded well.
This six-week adventure will take us to areas’ requiring urgent protection, to aid such crucially needed marine conservation projects and make a real difference towards the coral reefs future sustainability. During this time we will live in the Fijian community and immerse ourselves fully in the culture of this unique part of the world with some of the planet’s friendliest people. As well as learning how to scuba dive and helping to implement marine conservation measures, we will also have lessons in the Fijian language and Fijian cookery, ensuring we are never stuck for a delicious recipe or sunny greeting again. Whether you are looking for an amazing way to spend your gap year, or just want to spend six weeks aiding vital projects, learning the Fijian language, going on exciting excursions, and scuba diving in some of the most beautiful spots on the planet, this six-week adventure is guaranteed to provide you with the memories of a lifetime!
