Our swimming programme in Australia is perfect for any swimmer who wants to train and improve their swimming technique in a fun and supportive environment overseas. The swimming programme consists of strength and conditioning work, group fitness sessions and lots of time training in the pool.

Where will I be?
The programme is based in Brisbane, in the state of Queensland, which is a vibrant young city with plenty to offer. Sport is very popular in Brisbane, with many of the nation’s top athletes training and competing there - watching any of the state sports teams is a must during your stay. Combined with all the exploring and socialising to be done, this all makes it the perfect location to spend time developing your swimming strokes and technique. Group training as well as one-to-one sessions will see great improvements in your swimming ability, giving you more confidence to reach your goals.

GapsportsWhat will I be doing?
The training programme will be structured around three key areas: strength and conditioning, group fitness sessions and pool time. Strength and conditioning involves physical and psychological training such as core stability work, quick lifts and mental exercises to make you, as an athlete, sharper, stronger and fitter. This will provide an important base onto which you can build your technical skills. Group fitness sessions will become an excellent bonding time for everyone on the programme as you sweat your way through various different aerobic or circuit training sessions, boosting your fitness and determination to become a better swimmer. Finally, you will train with a local swimming club, practicing the skills you have been working on during the week and enjoying the benefits of club sport in Australia. The friends you make during the programme and through your local club will generate an awesome social life for your coveted time off. There is also a range of adventure activities included to help you make the most of your time in Brisbane.

Why in Australia?
GapsportsSwimming is very popular in Australia thanks to the abundance of water and the warm climate. Major sporting competitions such as the Olympics always include a wealth of Australian talent and the successful Ian (The Thorpedo) Thorpe, has helped to generate support and commitment to competitive swimming. Sport in general is huge in Australia so it’s a great place to get stuck in and build on your fitness and technique.

What can I do after the programme?

Australia is full of wildlife and beautiful scenery, not to mention the endless beaches and surfer towns, so there’s plenty to explore whatever your interests. You can head north up to Cairns, via the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef where you can learn to scuba dive and make a didgeridoo. Or travel south to the bustling cities of Sydney and Melbourne, via the country’s capital Canberra and the party town of Surfers Paradise. Not to mention the cross-country expeditions available into the ‘red centre’ where you can visit the world famous Uluru before heading through the Golden Outback to reach Perth. The adventure travel opportunities in Australia are brilliant and the people are so welcoming you’ll never want to leave!

So, if you want to travel Australia while experiencing swimming abroad, this is the perfect sports programme for you!
