This placement would suit... enthusiastic rowers who want to spend some quality time training at a local rowing club with professional coaches in Australia. And of course soaking up that relaxed Aussie atmosphere. Our rowing programme is ideal for keen rowers looking to develop their rowing ability through training and fitness in Australia. The programme itself consists of strength and conditioning work, group fitness sessions and lots of time on the water working on your rowing technique.Where will I be? The programme is based in Brisbane, in the state of Queensland, which is a vibrant young city with plenty to offer. Sport is very popular in Brisbane, with many of the nation’s top teams training and playing there. You will be surrounded by plenty of sportsmen and women and there’s no shortage of water around! This all makes it the perfect location to enjoy while developing your rowing skills and technique. Fitness training as well as one-to-one sessions will see great improvements in your ability, giving you heaps more confidence. What will I be doing? The training programme will be structured around three key areas: strength and conditioning, group fitness sessions and rowing training. Strength and conditioning involves physical and psychological training such as core stability work, quick lifts and mental exercises to make you, as an athlete, sharper, stronger and fitter. This will provide an important base onto which you can build your technical skills. Group fitness sessions will become an excellent bonding time for everyone on the programme as you sweat your way through various different aerobic or circuit training sessions, boosting your fitness and determination to become a better athlete. Finally, you will train with professional coaches at a local rowing club who can give you expert advice to improve your technique. This is the time to practice the skills and fitness you have been working on during the week and enjoy the benefits of a supportive club. The friends you make during the programme and through your local club will generate an awesome social life for your coveted time off. There is also a range of adventure activities included to help you make the most of your time in Brisbane. Why in Australia? Dedication and commitment to sport in Australia is not difficult to find. The enthusiasm and energy that comes naturally to athletes here definitely extends to rowing. They have world class men’s and women’s teams, both with an excellent Olympics and World Championship record. If you want to improve your skills in a fantastic sporting environment, Australia is the place to be. What can I do after the programme? After training (and socialising) your socks off, Australia is an excellent country to travel around and the East Coast is a great place to start. Brisbane is sandwiched in between the Gold Coast to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north, surrounding the city with some of the country’s best beaches - obviously nothing quite compares to the fabulous man-made beach in the middle of Brisbane, but you may as well check them out anyway! The rest of the country, as huge as it is, offers a really diverse range of sights and scenery - enough to keep you busy for as long as you want to explore. Transport for travellers in Australia is excellent so if you decide you want to work your way around the whole country and into the centre, there’s no reason why you can’t. The friends you’ve made during the rowing programme will undoubtedly want to travel as well so grab your boomerang, your didgeridoo and your thongs (all will be explained) and head off around one of the most travel-friendly countries in the world.
