This placement would suit... keen rugby players looking to revel in the glory of beating Australia in two Rugby World Cups! And obviously those excited about playing and training with top coaches and fitness instructors at a club on Australia’s East Coast.

Our rugby programme in Australia is perfect for any rugby player who wants to train and improve their rugby skills in a country where the sport is huge. The rugby programme consists of strength and conditioning work, group fitness sessions and lots of time training and playing for a local rugby club.

Where will I be?
The programme is based in Brisbane, in the state of Queensland, which is a vibrant young city with plenty to offer. Sport is very popular in Brisbane, with many of the nation’s top teams training and playing there - watching the Queensland Reds play rugby in their home ground, the Suncorp Stadium, is a must during your stay. The Super 14 and State of Origin competitions all generate great support so you’ll be surrounded by people as passionate about the sport as you! This all makes it the perfect location to enjoy while developing your rugby skills and technique. Team based training as well as one-to-one sessions will see great improvements in your playing ability, giving you more confidence to fulfil your true potential.

What will I be doing?
Gapsports The training and playing programme will be structured around three key areas: strength and conditioning, group fitness sessions and match play. Strength and conditioning involves physical and psychological training such as core stability work, quick lifts and mental exercises to make you, as an athlete, sharper, stronger and fitter. This will provide an important base onto which you can build your technical skills. Group fitness sessions will become an excellent bonding time for everyone on the programme as you sweat your way through various different aerobic or circuit training sessions, boosting your fitness and determination to become a better player. Finally, you will train with a local rugby club and have the opportunity to play matches, practicing the skills you have been working on during the week and enjoying the benefits of team sport in Australia. The friends you make during the programme and through your local club will generate an awesome social life for your coveted time off. There is also a range of adventure activities included to help you make the most of your life in Brisbane.

Why in Australia?
The Wallabies have consistently been ranked alongside some of the best national rugby teams in the world and their state clubs compete in the southern hemisphere Super 14 competition. Australian success is not purely a matter of raw talent. The coaching and training available combined with favourable weather conditions create an ideal environment for sporting development at all levels and this is your chance to get in on the act.

What can I do after the programme?
GapsportsAfter training (and socialising) your socks off, Australia is an excellent country to travel around and the East Coast is a great place to start. Brisbane is sandwiched in between the Gold Coast to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north, surrounding the city with some of the country’s best beaches - obviously nothing quite compares to the fabulous man-made beach in the middle of Brisbane, but you may as well check them out anyway! Transport for travellers in Australia is really good so if you decide you want to work your way north to Cairns, South to Sydney and Melbourne or into the Centre to visit Uluru, there’s an array of travel options available. The friends you’ve made during the rugby programme will undoubtedly want to travel as well so grab your cork hat, your boomerang and your thongs (all will be explained) and head off around one of the most travel-friendly countries in the world.
