This placement would suit... anyone who wants to have a laugh, work hard, give back and go MAD! Venturing into the developing world with Madventurer will see you welcomed into a rural community where you'll live amongst, work alongside and teach the locals. An experience that simply can't be put into words (I get all the tough jobs!). In Kenya our past building endeavours have mainly involved erecting school buildings but might also involve constructing toilet facilities or provision of adequate drinking water. No project is ever considered unless it has been requested by the host community and has been judged, by our well experienced people on the ground, to be sustainable. Thus you can be sure you'll be making a real difference to your hosts standard of living.A teaching scheme is the other major element in our projects. The curriculum often looks to improve the English language skills of the local people but is only limited by your imagination! Kenya has some claim to being the region longest populated by humans. The Great Rift Valley is often referred to as 'The Cradle of Humanity' and is where remains of some of our earliest ancestors have been found. Some, were nearly as old as Cliff Richard...imagine that!! However, the country still isn't as developed as might be expected for a nation with such a long pedigree.Key standard of living indicators such as literacy, life expectancy and child mortality rates have been worsening over recent years. Most Kenyans are thought to live below the much vaunted $1 a day threshold and, on average, won't be living on this past their 47th birthday. Economic poverty is contrasted by the richness of what Kenya can offer the venturer in search of adventure! Mount Kenya rises 5,200m above sea level and provides climbs of varying difficulties. The world famous Maasai Mara is found on the Kenya - Tanzanian border and will captivate you with it's stunning scenery, straight-out-of-the-television wildlife and the spellbinding appearance and culture of the Maasai people. All of this and we haven't even dipped our toes in the Indian Ocean courtesy of Kenya's superb beaches...Come and see Kenya the way most tourists wish they could, from within a rural community who will be as pleased to welcome you as they will be reluctant to see you leave. Feeling adventurous? Why not include an overland adventure in your package and experience the wilds of East Africa?
