This placement would suit... anyone with an enthusiasm for teaching and a desire to learn!![]() In Romania, English is important for children and adults alike, but many of the best qualified English teachers are tempted by higher wages outside of the classroom. Our volunteers are working with children in Brasov, helping them with their spoken English and improving their confidence with the language. We teach children and young adults between the ages of 12 and 18, but if you’d prefer to work with younger children please let us know. There are also chances to help teaching other languages such as German and French. Schools are happy to receive volunteers eager to assist with or organise extra curricular activities such as sport, music and dance. In addition we have some exciting new opportunities working on a drama project with children. All volunteers are allocated a supervisor within their placement and also have the backup of our staff in the local office and the UK office. Accommodation is with local ‘host’ families; as well as providing support, advice and an insight into Romanian family life, host families also provide three meals per day which tend to be traditional recipes and give volunteers a great opportunity to sample a range of Romanian delights! The country of Romania was forged from the Roman province of Dacia. This means that Romania's unique Latin culture in the heart of Eastern Eorpe stands alone and makes for a highly individual country. During your placement you are only an hour away from "Dracula's Castle", the medieval home of the tyrant Vlad the Impaler! Visit this castle or take walks in the Carpathian Mountains. In the summer you are surrounded by stunning countryside. At the weekends in the winter you can go skiing or snowboarding at the small local resort. After your placement, or during time off you can visit gloriously painted monastries in the North and lush sea-side resorts in the south - perfect in the summer for a beach holiday. Our users say..."The experience was of great value. I learned a great deal about the part of Romania in which I lived and about people’s lives. I gained a greater understanding of systems in education and child care. I also gained some knowledge about myself." - Linda Aston
