![]() Lattitude volunteers in China find it hard to leave and many prolong their stay in the country as long as they can. Some even amend their UK University courses to include a Chinese module! This is not surprising as the people of China are courteous, welcoming and their culture has much to offer from the Great Wall, to Tian'anmen Square, the Terracotta Army and the latest Architecture in Shanghai. One-fifth of the world's population lives in The People's Republic of China (1,313,973,713 estimated 2006) and the covers seven percent of the world's land area. Lattitude placements in China are based in schools in seven provinces in South and East China, from fast-developing Jiangsu to rural areas of Yunnan. Our placements are highly valued by the host schools, so this really is an opportunity to make a difference and help out schools in China. The work will test your personal skills, but the satisfaction you will get from teaching conversational English, which young people desperately want to learn from a native speaker, will be well worth the effort. You may get invitations to weddings, parties, family homes and even appear as local celebrities on TV. As an additional bonus, you may find yourself working alongside an Australian volunteer. Accommodation is provided in self-contained apartments generally on campus. As well as all pre-departure preparation, we also offer an orientation and teaching skills course in China to make sure you are prepared for your work. China is a marvelous country to visit on a gap year. Despite the rate of economic change, it remains a culturally fascinating country, and the friendliness and warmth of your hosts will amaze you.
