	This placement would suit... This placement is ideal for careergappers. Couples are welcome and receive a 10% discount (this also applies to friends travelling together). Approximately 50% of our volunteers are non-UK based, with a large number of volunteers from North America, Europe and Australia. Our volunteers have a good level of general education and are enthusiastic, culturally aware, adaptable and highly motivated. The Gambia is one of the nicest spots for a volunteer to spend time in Africa. One can experience the 'real' Africa, the noise, the drums, the heat, the dust and, best of all, the friendly village people. And, just a short distance away, the rolling surf of the Atlantic, with water temperature around 28°C. Currently MondoChallenge volunteers are working at two schools in The Gambia. The first is a small primary school set up with funding from VSO in the village of Kunkujang and the second is a larger school based in the Northern village of Wellingara. Volunteers assist these schools by dividing the classes into smaller groups and by providing support and English practise to the local staff. For more business-minded volunteers, we also provide business support to the National Beekeeping Association of the Gambia and help them to train their staff. The future aims of NBAG are firstly to decentralise operations through the establishment of local project sites. Secondly to establish a micro-finance operation to provide invaluable start-up capital to new beekeepers on ‘fair’ terms and thirdly the association will stimulate the supply of honey by building a rural-urban supply chain to ensure honey producers get the best price. Recently, MondoChallenge have begun working with another organisation in the local area. The Santa Yala Support Association is an association of over 300 persons living with HIV/AIDS in The Gambia, promoting a positive living. The association is focused mainly on HIV/AIDS Awareness campaigns and undertakes various community development projects which include agro-productivity, training members in sales, product development and adult literacy etc. Our users say… “I had a great time and although I found the teaching hard at times I’m really glad I did it.
