This placement would suit... anyone with some energy and a desire to see this astounding nation Teaching & Projects Abroad can enable you to help increase literacy levels in rural South Africa. Teach a range of subjects to all ages in town and farm schools and genuinely learn about this country of variety and hope from the inside. In this country of dramatic change and optimism, schools in the north find it hard to attract teachers from the lifestyle and pay of the cities. Small rural schools need volunteer teachers to help cope with the demands of a country with 11 national languages, and education that is taught mainly in English. You could help with timetabled English lessons in a town school, or with a variety of subjects in a rural farm school – from English and maths to environmental science, sport, music, art or vocational skills. Your presence is vital to ensure this new generation of children have the skills, enthusiasm and aspirations to continue in education or improve their job prospects and opportunities within the local area. No TEFL is required. Teaching & Projects Abroad are actually based in scenic Barbeton in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. You will have your own placement supervisor and the full support of our local staff and office at all times. At the weekends and with any independent touring time you request you will have the ultimate range of sites to visit and explore. Our users say..."My three months in South Africa was a brilliant experience. The teaching I did was, at times, challenging, but working with the children was great. The experience gave me more confidence and independence and provided a chance to spend time as part of a different culture giving insights into local people’s lives. Also a chance to explore the country’s famous sights and hidden gems that most would never find. Definitely a worthwhile experience." - Emma Outterside
