This placement would suit... someone with a love of children who is keen to experience the Thai way of life whilst making a real difference to others.

Changing Worlds can now offer this unique opportunity to live and work side by side with young people in beautiful northern Thailand.
In the hills around Chiang Rai ancient tribal societies are struggling to find a role and hold on to their traditions in a rapidly developing country.

You will work with these people as well as young middle class Thais, giving you insight into these very different sides of Thai society.

You will also get to enjoy the stunning scenery on our special expeditions at the beginning of your trip.

If you want to experience more than beach life in Thailand then this could be the one for you.

Changing Worlds offer the opportunity to work in primary and secondary schools throughout the World.

All volunteers must possess a good and confident level of written and spoken English. This is the one attribute that is called for within all schools where we place people.

ThailandEnglish language is, with the growth of the world wide web, becoming the universal language for the 21st century. The demand to learn our language is increasing and this is why you can contribute in schools. You are under demand!

You do not need to be a trained teacher - if you are it helps. What we do ask is that applicants have some experience of working with younger people - be it in the brownies, at a sports club or as a school prefect or a head of house. Sadly babysitting younger brothers and sisters is not enough!

This experience will give you a better insight in to what kids are like and how you have to work hard to get the best out of them.
We will share some ideas of good teaching practice before you depart to give you added confidence. We cannot pretend it will be easy because it will not - in fact you will have some howlers but the trick is to be able to pick yourself up and go again. This way you will earn the respect of the students in your care.

You will be welcomed by the school and will have the opportunity to observe classes before you take up the role. The local teachers will provide you with help and ideas particularly in those early weeks.

thailandNobody is placed in a school on their own so you will be able to share good teaching ideas and strategies with one another. If you are in to sport, drama, music or art then your skills in these areas will be well received. Overworked teachers in the schools may not have time to add extra curricular activities to the school day but see this an opportunity to get involved with the children. It will make a massive difference to them and to you!

On some weekday evenings you can help less privileged hill-tribe children in nearby orphanages. Here the work will be less structured but will offer the opportunity to play with the children, teach simple number work (adding, subtracting, multiplying) and to organise events. The boys and girls are aged between 7 and 18 years.

Changing Worlds is looking for committed volunteers who will respect the Thai way of life and 'go with the flow'. This is not for those who wish to party hard. Patience, kindness and a sense of fun are all qualities that we feel are essential for our volunteers.

Our users say

"If anyone is thinking bout going to Thailand then you definitely should go! I went for 3 months and loved it out there! The people are really friendly and I felt right at home!"
