This placement would suit... anyone with an enthusiasm for teaching and a desire to learn! Teaching & Projects Abroad first started sending volunteers to teach in Argentina in February of 2006. Our teaching placements are situated in the town of Unquillo in the province of Cordoba and offer you the chance to help provide a head-start for pupils in the local schools. This is an opportunity for you to be as creative as possible, help making learning English fun and enjoyable. Whether you are assisting a teacher, have a class of your own or are taking extra curricular classes, your help is greatly needed. Working at the schools is enjoyable and rewarding. Through the use of authentic materials, games and songs, you can engage the students and make them eager to learn! Volunteers currently teach at one several different schools. The first is a primary school whose pupils are between the ages of 6 and 11. The second is a secondary school with children aged 11 to 17. In this school the volunteers teach English with the supervision of an English professor. The third school is close to Unquillo where the volunteers also teach English. Volunteers are also sent to teach in an orphanage which is under the direction of nuns. At all placements volunteers are encouraged to take part in other activities such as coaching football. Volunteers will be expected to work up to 4 hours per day from Monday to Friday but if you want more teaching time, that could be arranged. It proves helpful if volunteers already speak some basic Spanish although this is not a prerequisite. All volunteers are allocated a supervisor within their placement and also have the backup of our staff in the local office and the UK office. Accommodation is with local ‘host’ families; as well as providing support, advice and an insight into Argentinean family life, host families also provide three meals per day which tend to be traditional recipes and give volunteers a great opportunity to sample a range of Argentinean delights! "Throughout your placement, you will be located near other volunteers and will live with a local host family. This is a brilliant way to become a part of the local community, giving you a real insight to what Argentine life is like."
