IntroductionTake part in a two week English camp programme for Thai children from 8-12 years old on the beautiful island of Koh Phangan, starting in July. About the English Camps and students PoD summer English Camps are an exciting way to help and encourage Thai children from 8-12 years old to learn and practise English. The children are from government primary schools on the island of Koh Phangan. Working with a group of other volunteers and our staff, your role will be to run three English camps (two days long each) at different schools around the island. The camps involve as much fun and interaction as possible including games, sports, songs, art and other creative activities. They are also an opportunity to explore different cultures and the Thais are very keen to share some of their traditions. How you will spend the two weeksAfter a few days to acclimatise, settle in and have some local tours, we start the process of preparing for the camps. We will provide guidance, ideas and resources, and the group will run and manage each camp. In between camps there will be time off to rest and prepare, and at the end there will be a couple of days to celebrate and relax. In your time off you can explore the island, and a snorkelling trip and Thai cooking course is included in the programme. You will live in a Thai bungalow by the beach with restaurants and facilities nearby. The island of Koh Phangan is a dramatic mix of dense jungle and hilly terrain in its interior and beaches along the coast. It offers stunning beaches, great snorkelling and diving, and jungle and temples to explore inland. It is a popular traveller destination and there is a lively social scene. What's included
This placement lasts for 2 weeks and runs once a year, starting in July. The benefit and requirements For the Thai people, good English means good opportunities. The English camps are a really fun and active way of motivating and helping the children to learn. They are also an opportunity to share different cultures. There is no need to have any previous teaching experience, just lots of energy and enthusiasm, and a love of working with children. Our users say: "My time in Thailand with PoD has certainly been the best experience I have ever had. I met the most amazing people through PoD and I know that we will keep in touch. The two weeks I spent teaching were so fulfilling. Seeing the children at the schools excited about us being there made it so worthwhile. The teaching was brilliant as we got to bring loads of fun into helping the children with their English. I would definitely do something like this again because it really is an amazing experience to go to another country, learn about different cultures, and meet new people. Go PoD" - Emily "Thank you so much for such a fantastic experience. The camps were hard work but also a lot of fun! Made some great friends in a beautiful and interesting place doing something truly worthwhile! I went straight from school to university so the 2 week summer camp programme was a wonderful way to get a taste of the gap year experience...although it seemed to pass far too quickly!" - Felicity
